Facewise-XO by Niteshift Studio · Last updated 29 September 2026

Facewise-XO is a noughts-and-crosses game played on a cube. We've built it to collect as little as possible: there are no accounts, no adverts, no analytics and no tracking. This page explains exactly what happens to information when you play.

Playing on one device

When you play on your own, against bots, or pass the device around, nothing leaves your device. The names, shapes and colours you choose exist only while the game is open and are not saved.

Playing online

If you tap Host online or Join, your device connects to a game room so you can play with friends on their own devices. To make that work, the following is sent to the other players in your room:

  • the display name you typed, and the shape and colour you picked
  • the four-letter room code
  • your moves in the game
  • a random code generated for that session, so the game can tell players apart (it isn't linked to you, your device or any account)

This information is passed between players in real time and is not stored by us. It's gone when the game ends. We can't see it, and we have no way to link it to you.

You don't have to use your real name. Any nickname works, and we suggest children use one.

The service that connects online games

Online rooms run on Supabase, a hosting service that relays messages between players' devices. Like any internet service, Supabase briefly handles your device's IP address to deliver messages, and may keep short-lived technical logs for security and to keep the service running. Supabase acts on our behalf and isn't allowed to use this information for its own purposes. You can read Supabase's privacy policy.

What we don't do

  • We don't ask you to sign up or log in.
  • We don't show adverts or use advertising identifiers.
  • We don't use analytics, tracking or crash-reporting tools.
  • We don't sell or share information with anyone.
  • We don't access your contacts, photos, location, camera or microphone.

Children

Facewise-XO is suitable for all ages. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The only thing shared during online play is the display name a player chooses, and only with the people in their room.

Your rights

Because we don't store information about you, there's normally nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you're in the UK or EU, you still have rights under data protection law. If you have any question or concern, please contact us and we'll help.

Changes to this policy

If the game changes in a way that affects your privacy, we'll update this page and the date at the top.

A Niteshift Studio game

Six games of noughts and crosses on one cube, for 2 to 6 players, with bots or friends online.

How to play

  • Roll it: swipe to roll the cube, then play on whichever face lands on top.
  • Pick it: turn the cube to any face you like, then place your counter.
  • Stack it: one 3×3×3 cube. Make three in a row on a level, up a column, or diagonally through the cube. The centre unlocks after two rounds.

Win a face with three in a row. Whoever wins the most faces wins the game.

Playing online

  • One player taps Host online and shares the four-letter room code.
  • Friends type the code and tap Join on their own devices.
  • The host chooses the mode, can add bots, and starts the game. If someone's connection drops, a bot takes their seat so the game can finish.

Something not working?

  • Can't connect online: check you're connected to the internet, and that the code is typed correctly (codes never use I or O).
  • "Game in progress": that room has already started. Ask the host to go back to the lobby.
  • No sound: make sure the mute button in the game is off, and your device's silent switch isn't on.
